Go With the Flow
The clear blue water of the caldera lake that fills Lake Kussharo stretches endlessly, translucent and pure. The largest caldera lake in Akan-Mashu, the noticeable clarity of Lake Kussharo's waters stems from the lake's source: rain. Rather than be filled by feeding tributaries carrying sediment, the expansive basin of Kussharo collects the pristine rainwater that falls from the unobstructed skies above the surronding mountains. Stunning in every season, Lake Kussharo's versatility offers a refreshing respite during summer, abundant nature in spring, vibrant fall foliage in autumn, and a frozen-over landscape in winter. On a guided kayaking tour led by a nature expert, launch off into the stunning natural beauty of Lake Kussharo, taking in the wildlife, scenery, and volcanic activity surronding the shores. Continue on the journey downstream, cruising with the current and witnessing a range of the unique ecosystems that comprise the Akan-Mashu region.
What you’ll do
Meet at the headquarters to gear up with waterproof clothing and lifevests. Head to the launch point for a scenic view of Lake Kussharo, then cruise downriver guided by a local nature expert. Learn about the surronding ecosystem while enjoying an active experience.
