Brown bears roaming on the land
Rausu is a little town located on the east end of Hokkaido’s Shiretoko Peninsula. In Ainu, the name means “low-land.” Ainu is an East Asian ethnic group indigenous to Hokkaido. Rausu is known for its kombu seaweed production and fishery (salmon and squid). As soon as a short summer ends, the chilly wind comes down from the ocean. Such an environment has been a sanctuary for many wild animals and plants. Our guide is an experienced local fisherman: he will take you on his boat and show you the beautiful landscape, a World Heritage, from the ocean. And he will show you brown bears roaming on the land. The purpose of this unique nature tour is to show you not only the diverse nature of the environment (brown bears are spiritual animals for the Ainu), but also the positive image of the local fishermen’s lifestyle. The duration of the tour is about 3.0 hours.
