Unfold the five lakes
“Shiretoko” means the “Edge of the Earth” in Ainu. “Ainu'' is an East Asian ethnic group indigenous to Hokkaido. This national park located on the Shiretoko peninsula has been registered as a World Heritage. Gorgeous landscapes unfold around the five lakes, which play a pivotal role in the biodiverse environment. You can observe unique oaks and pines, indigenous deer roaming...oh, we should stop explaining too much here! We will let Yuji, a professional nature guide who has been working in the field more than 40 years, guide you through this beautiful land. Yuji is a great storyteller, communicates well in English. The hike is mild without big slopes, the duration about 3 hours long. You will walk around the five lakes of Shiretoko; every season offers something different to see and feel. You may feel as if you are inside Hayao Miyazaki’s fantasy world. The tour is offered from May through November.
