The market, auction and an evening of dining on fine crab

Within Tsuiyama Fishing Port, located just outside of Kinosaki, is a market renowned as a crab specialty store.  Tsuiyama Crab Market has built a reputation over generations of discerning fish brokers for rigorously selecting only the finest quality fresh, local crabs.  The name “Tsuiyama crab” is only given to the most select crabs that have a provenance certified by fishermen and market fish brokers.  Characterized by their long, slender legs and flawlessly beautiful appearance, Tsuiyama crabs are widely regarded as the most delicious in Japan.  The topography of the coastal Sea of Japan waters allows for day-fishing and is the primary reason for the freshest, highest quality crabs being harvested in the region.

For a unique perspective of the crab market, join us on a tour with our host, Hiroki, a Tsuiyama Crab Market power broker and restaurateur.  His goal is to provide the ultimate experience to crab buyers and diners alike.  The tour begins early in the morning as we depart the sleepy hot spring resort town and approach the bustling seaport.  Boats arrive loaded with fresh crabs that are evaluated for quality, then taken to auction where bidding agents ultimately take their purchases of prized crabs to wholesalers, specialty food shops, restaurants, and supermarkets.  After the morning’s bustle of the market and auction, you can enjoy an evening of dining on fine crab at Hiroki’s restaurant.  Won’t you join us on this journey of taste?
