Search for wild animals in Shiretoko on a private nature tour of the Northern Edge

Details

Biodiverse environment

With staggering mountains touching the shores of the ocean, geological structures formed by ancient eruptions, and a cradle for countless different populations of wildlife, Shiretoko is both beautiful and dramatic. Meaning "Edge of the Earth" in Ainu, the language of one of the ethnic groups Indigenous to Hokkaido, Shiretoko has been registered as a World Heritage site. Gorgeous landscapes unfold around five lakes, which play a pivotal role in the biodiverse environment. Guided by Yuji, a nature expert with over 40 years in the field, explore this stunning natural scenery in search of local wildlife, with the chance to spot salmon jumping upstream, white-tailed eagles swooping along the coast, herds of Ezo deer bounding through fields, or even bears hunting for fish along the water. As Yuji drives you between local wildlife hotspots, comfortably chatting in English and regaling with stories of the region, immerse into both the raw beauty and the welcoming community of Shiretoko.
