Heard It Through the Grapevine

Tucked into the rolling fields of Tokachi, surrounded by native Hokkaido trees and foliage, is a small vineyard specializing in organic production methods of yamabudo, a type of hardy grape filled with nutrients that is capable of surviving even the piercing drops in Hokkaido's temperatures during the winter season. Only yamabudo varieties can be grown in this environment, but the species does more than grow - it thrives, thanks to the help of local hands who meticulously tend to the vineyard without the use of pesticides, producing wine packed with powerful antioxidants and a rich, natural taste. At this Hokkaido vineyard, they've developed a range of potent cross-species, each with its own unique characteristics - to diversify the type of wine produced. While the winery, and modern wine-making culture in Japan, appear relatively new, sources dating back to the 15th century show a history of imported "Nanban wine" in Japan, with domestic winemaking following a century or so later. During this winery and vineyard tour in Hokkaido conducted by the 2nd-generation owner, immerse into the revitalized tradition of winemaking in Japan, and enjoy sampling a taste of true Japanese flavor.
