A Diverse Blend of Body and Mind

Kitami, an agricultural center of Hokkaido, was once the home to 70% of the world’s mint production. Now, the region features immense rows and rows of singular crops - wheat, corn, onion - prioritizing produce rather than herbs. However, at this organic herb farm, large-scale agricultural practices are forgone and Kitami's herbal roots are returned to, with sprawling fields that feature a diverse array of plants, flowers, and herbs, all grown without the use of pesticides, chemicals, or material sourced from non-surrounding areas. The biological diversity - over 70 different species of herbs are grown packed into the fields surrounding the tea house - not only supports a wide range of wildlife, such as darting butterflies, dragonflies, and birds, but also draws in collectors eager to witness the rare flora and fauna. The connection between soil and soul, nature and the body, is something that has inspired this farm from the start. The farm was originally created over 70 years ago by the current owner's grandfather, but herb cultivation wasn't introduced until his father's generation, who, after battling illnesses as a child and finding traditional medicine ineffective in alleviating his symptoms, turned to self-study and homeopathic remedies. The belief that life and nature are intertwined - and that the things your body consumes and the minerals your body processes then turn into the health and energy powering your life - is one also actively preached by the current owner and his wife, who met at one of the farm's herbal tea pop-up events as she searched for alternative remedies to her ailments. Each blend of herbal tea carefully balances both taste and treatment, even featuring natural hues of pastel pink, aquamarine, and deep indigo for a visual treat on top of the health benefits.
