Branching out over a Long History
The art of ikebana, or flower arrangement, finds its roots in medieval Japan, as an aesthetic practice enjoyed by aristocrats and samurai. It is a tradition that has branched out over a long history, with numbers estimating over 300 different schools and styles of flower arrangement. This experience invites you to a school of ikebana which holds a special place within this history, both as an intentioned bearer of traditional techniques and an innovator within the craft. While continuing to teach their time-honored “Classical Flowers” and “Free Flowers” styles, this ikebana school also pushes the boundaries of tradition, developing a new concept called “Plant Appearance”. In this private Ikebana-viewing experience, meet with an instructor certified by the headmaster of the tradition and learn about the history, aesthetics, and mathematical reasoning underpinning the craft.
What you’ll do
Meet with a certified ikebana Master and observe a live flower arranging demonstration. Take away a special gift of ikebana tools to try out what you learned at home.
