Work alongside a manga industry leader to learn how to take an event from your personal experience and turn that into a manga story panel.
Our host Akira is a well-established figure in the world of manga. Winning the “emerging artist” award of a manga competition prompted Akira to enroll in an arts college to further pursue his passion. After graduation, he worked in video production where he immersed himself in all aspects of the field. Proving that manga is not just for kids or “geeks,” Akira’s expertise is in rendering Japanese and Southeast Asian historical novels into manga series. He has published a book on manga panel layout and currently teaches manga at a university. According to Akira, the fun of manga lies in the panel layout, in assembling an engaging scene from multiple perspectives. On this tour, you will create a one-page panel based on a story from your personal experience. Akira will guide you in a logical, yet fun manner on turning your personal story into a manga panel. It will be an opportunity to see Akira in action and to expand your own creative potential at the same time.
