Will fill you with that sense of awe centuries of people

Miyajima is a small island of roughly 30 km2 located in Hiroshima Bay. Ninth Century Buddhist monk Kukai was drawn to Miyajima because the shape of Mount Misen resembled the profile of Buddha. The island has been spiritually revered ever since. The island’s Itsukushima Shrine, famous for its “floating” torii gates, has been a site of spiritual pilgrimages for over a thousand years.

The primary mode of transportation to Miyajima Island is a ten-minute ferry ride from the mainland. On this tour, you will cross from the mainland to Miyajima Island by sea kayak. As your oars glide through the serene waters of the Seto Inland Sea, your guide will introduce you to the history of the island. You will follow along the same path taken by the ancient peoples who rowed to the island on their spiritual journeys. Rowing your kayak past the floating torii of Itsukushima Shrine will fill you with that sense of awe centuries of people experienced upon arrival to their island pilgrimages. This kayaking tour is the only way to approach and view the floating torii gates from the sea rather than by land. Won’t you join us for that unique, awe-inspiring perspective?

What you’ll do

After a brief explanation and practice, we will paddle out from in front of the store to Miyajima Island. As we paddle leisurely, chatting with each other, we soon find ourselves at the Otorii gate of Miyajima! After passing through the Otorii gate of Miyajima, we will land right next to Itsukushima Shrine and have a short break. Then we will paddle back to the store while feeling the nature of Miyajima. The 3-hour sea kayaking experience will fly by in no time at all.
