Take in the spectacular sights, sounds and smells of the mountain
Mt. Omine, at 1039 meters/3400 feet above sea level, is one of the most prominent mountains in the Chugoku Mountain Range of Hiroshima Prefecture. It offers panoramic views of the bustling shipping harbor of Hiroshima City and the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea which is renowned for its oyster cultivation. There is a popular saying in the industry that “Oysters are nurtured by forests,” meaning the minerals in the mountain water flowing from river to sea contribute significantly to the flavor of the local oysters.
After rebuilding from the horrors of the atomic bombing in World War II, Hiroshima was proclaimed a City of Peace by the Japanese government. From monuments dedicated to remembrance of the bombing, to the calm waters of Hiroshima Bay and the pristine mountains, the area beckons travelers seeking a memorable journey.
