In the snowy terrain of Akita Prefecture, local restaurants have always served as cultural centers for patrons. As result, a unique practice of both food and performance developed, inspired by the art of geisha. From a young age, geisha train not only in the traditional arts of dance and music but also hospitality, service, and conversation. In addition to specializing in geisha, this Akita establishment has mastered the local culinary tradition, with a particular care for kiritanpo-nabe—a unique form of handmade rice cake served in a hotpot style. In this experience, geisha performance and local cuisines combine for a memorable dining opportunity dating back hundreds of years. While feasting on an artfully prepared meal, enjoy music, dance, games, and the chance to learn more about the history and practice of geisha. And if you so choose, try your hand at preparing your own kiritanpo rice cakes guided by master chefs.
