Interpreter Guide


Fluent in Japanese and French (or English/Spanish/German) and passionate about sharing Japanese culture? We’d love to hear from you.
We are looking for interpreters who can help guide our curious travellers during authentic Japanese experiences in crafts, martial arts, cooking and more in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
1. Currently residing in Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, or Osaka
2. Fluent in Japanese, and at least one of the following languages: French, English, Spanish, German (native or advanced fluency).
Experienced interpreters preferred. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

From the simple beauty of repairing broken ceramics to feeling the flames of a katana forge, we’ve carefully crafted a range of experiences with genuine Japanese artisans that get you closer to the essence of Japan. We’re searching for a talented student or graduate passionate about Japanese traditional culture, and interested in sharing these rich traditions with audiences all over the world.  You’ve probably done a lot of travel yourself, and you understand the unique beauty of cross-cultural connections. You’re an excellent communicator – you can get to the essence of an idea in just a few words. You also know that empathy with the customer is vital for storytelling that resonates.

Based in Sangenjaya, we’re a multicultural, multilingual, multi-talented, multi-city team that like to have fun, and we know that diversity is a must for a great working environment. Not only is this a paid internship, but there are perks too. We’re always searching for new experiences, so you might find yourself ringside at a Sumo training session or kneading your own Soba dough!

Marketing and Design Intern
You’ll be work closely with our Creative & Marketing Director to execute Deeper Japan’s marketing strategy. On a given day, you might be penning a caption introducing our latest host in an Instagram post, managing a budding relationship with a luxury hotel, setting up a precision targeted ad campaign on Facebook, laying out a beautiful brochure in InDesign, or editing a stunning experience video for our website. A willingness to test new approaches, fail fast, and learn quickly is crucial.

  • You can communicate effectively in English

  • You know the basics of the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).

We’re also looking for at least one of these specialised skills:

  • Video Editing - Adobe Premiere/Final Cut Pro

  • Google Ads & Facebook Ads experience

  • Copywriting for advertising


  • You’ll be reporting directly to the Creative & Marketing Director.

  • Internship duration is 6 months, minimum 3 days a week, with potential for remote working.

  • Your experience and skillset will be taken into account when determining stipend.

  • We’ll reimburse all work-related travel costs.

Research and Marketing Intern

We are seeking curiosity-driven researchers who excel in discovering relevant information and potential partners and are also enthusiastic about implementing marketing strategies . You will be vital in creating exciting new partnerships, as well as getting the word out about Deeper Japan’s experiences!


  • Resonance with the Deeper Japan’s mission

  • Business-level Japanese with at least conversational-level English

  • Excellent verbal and communication skills

  • Interest in Japanese culture and tourism

  • Proficiency in basic Excel/Google Sheets

  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction, problem solve and accomplish established goals

Internship responsibilities: 

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include the following (note subject to some change): 

  • Accompanying team members to host interviews as support staff and model

  • Searching for potential new Deeper Japan experiences

  • Writing descriptive content to showcase our experiences

  • Assisting with FB ads and Google AdWords (potentially)

  • Brainstorming branding and marketing strategy

  • Translating texts from Japanese to English and vice versa

  • Contacting potential partners via email, social media, and/or phone

  • Attend daily morning team meetings and weekly reporting meetings

Internship duration: minimum 6 months, minimum 3 days a week. Candidate’s experience and abilities will be taken into account when determining stipend. Necessary expenses such as transport will be reimbursed.

Full Stack Engineer

Like exploring local spots that are not easy to find? We are looking for a full stack engineer to help us further increase the quality of the Deeper Japan platform so that the Deeper Japan online experience will be the best it can be for our customers. The ideal candidate should have adequate experience in building large scale web applications while having the capacity to integrate it with the backend framework.


  • Resonance with the Deeper Japan mission

  • Fluency in English or Japanese (ideally both)

  • Experience in designing and implementing web applications with Javascript/HTML5/CSS and web services integration

  • Knowledge of best practices and methodologies for writing web application

  • Extensive experience with front end frameworks such as Rails

  • Understanding of design/UX principles and ability to participate in design discussions

  • Understanding of performance, data security, large scale deployment, continuous integration, unit testing

  • Ability to pick up, understand, and communicate complex concepts

  • Excellent communication skills and a strong desire to work with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to drive product feature and requirement gathering with external customers

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent
