Unraveling Mystery, Immersing in Art
Elegant yet shrouded in mystery, simple but often inscrutable, Noh is a performative style defined by dichotomies. With its profound sense of spirituality, centuries of heritage, abundance of literary allusions, and highly-formalized poses, Noh is both richly delightful and illusively indescribable. Therefore, a deeper understanding of all of these complex details and historical and cultural background undoubtedly assists in enriching an audience's understanding of this classical performing art.
In this exclusive workshop, join master performers from the Kita Ryu School of Noh before their trailblazing Takigi Noh performance in Hokkaido. A rare opportunity to interact directly with the troupe, both musicians and performers alike will provide comprehensive instruction on Noh masks, Noh costumes, and Noh performing styles, to fully prime audiences for enjoying this traditional art.
What you’ll do
Guided by the Kita Ryu Noh performers, learn all about the masks, costumes, and Noh performance style. Watch the actors perform a curated selection of scenes, plus learn more details and key themes of the plays selected for the Takigi Noh performance held later that night.
