Rejuvenating nature

Kyoto is famous for its temples, ancient culture and dazzling traditional craftsmanship. But did you know Kyoto is surrounded by mountains on three sides and boasts some fantastic hiking courses? The “Kyoto Trail”, a horseshoe-shaped path running through the mountains around central Kyoto is one such hike beloved by locals. Enjoy the Higashiyama portion of this pleasantly invigorating trail, led by one of our certified nature guides. The best part? This trail takes less than 30 minutes to reach from central Kyoto, making it a perfect activity to fit in your busy schedule.

What you’ll do

Meet your local guide and interpreter at Keage station at 9:00am and then stroll through Nanzenji temple before heading into the forest! Your  guide will point out interesting flora and share about the historical significance of the area.  At the top of the mountain, you’ll be greeted by a panoramic view of all of Kyoto city where you can spot Kyoto’s major landmarks—a breathtaking photo-opportunity. Hike back down the mountain, where you’ll end up right at Ginkakuji Temple around 1pm, just in time for lunch and some sightseeing!
