In Collaboration with Hokkaido Airport, Travel Startup Deeper Japan Advances Operation in East Hokkaido
In partnership with Hokkaido Airport Co., Ltd., which operates seven airports throughout Hokkaido, Deeper Japan spearheads creation of high-quality value-added experiential products in Hokkaido’s eastern region.
Deeper Travel Co., Ltd., which operates Deeper Japan, an online service facilitating the booking of traditional cultural experiences for inbound visitors to Japan, has partnered with Hokkaido Airport Co., Ltd. to accelerate the development of high-quality, value-added experiential contents in the Hokkaido region. The creation of products marketed towards inbound visitors expands opportunities for collaboration between domestic and international businesses, as well as for overseas travel agencies looking to diversify their offerings within Japan.
Through this partnership, Deeper Japan can effectively utilize the information and resources associated with the seven airports included in Hokkaido Airport Co., Ltd’s network, to rapidly develop value-added cultural and natural experiential content in Hokkaido. Mainly targeting inbound travelers to Japan, these high-quality products aim to satisfy the curiosity of guests who contain a strong intellectual curiosity and interest in cultural material.
The collaboration comes as a result of a matching event held in Asahikawa that addressed the innovation of methods with the capability of supporting regional growth of inbound tourism. The event, sponsored by the Japan Tourism Agency, aimed to pair local businesses with innovative startups to tackle this issue, and led to the pairing of Deeper Travel and Hokkaido Airport Co., Ltd.
Despite the range of natural and cultural resources available within the Eastern Hokkaido area, the current tourist infrastructure does not effectively encourage excursions to the area. However, the inherent tourism potential the region holds, as well as active effort being conducted to develop high-quality activities and employ qualified guides, point to the value of expanding development of services within the region.
Deeper Travel’s development of value-added experiential products throughout the wider region is expected to increase both traveler’s duration of stay, as well as the average travel consumption amount to the region.
Facing the Future:
The startup’s planned expansions include both the development of domestic areas, such as Akita and Yamagata in Japan’s Tohoku region, as well as advancement of operation into overseas markets, with a primary focus on European and East Asian countries for the first round of growth.
Deeper Japan’s current business model implemented in Japan’s domestic market, which focuses on transcending differences in language and cultural values to provide enriching travel experiences, will be utilized as a standard to foster travel infrastructure in other locations. This development aims to provide enhanced experiential products to a wider range of intellectually-curious travelers worldwide.
